Decisions, conclusions, determinations. Poker is a game of constant decisions. They range from the decisive to the routine and they take place at a dizzying pace. Internet card play is peculiarly ferocious and the pressure level can be intense.
Do I raise? Do I stay? Do I call? Do I fold? Even when a loss assigned to a wrong decision is small, it finally adds together. Making the most expert decisions based on the info you have at hand is the headstone to beating up your opponents.
A great illustration of a critical determination in Texas Holdem that comes about on nearly every hand is the trouble associated with defending a small blind.
Imagine that while playing online in a Texas Hold'em game, with $1 and $2 blinds, a person always defends their small blind – he elects to stay in even with a trash hand merely because he has already placed the $1. Grounded on the unselected distribution of cards, you are normally dealt such a throwaway hand about one-third of the time.
At 50-60 hands per hour - a normal tempo in online card rooms the average player is dealt the small blind six times every 60 minutes. If they all of the time call, they end up calling twice each hour when they should be folding.
That's $6 per 60 minutes minimum. If you gamble ten hours per week, at the end of the year you have given away over three thousand dollars. Ouch.
That is but one good example of the kind of ‘big picture’ thinking that may make the difference between being a winner or a failure over the long haul.
Altogether the newest research (from the online casino’s themselves) show quite distinctly that over 50% of your profits at the online poker table will be decided BEFORE YOU ARE DEALT A SINGLE CARD (a few would advise it’s even higher than 50%).
Here are the Ten cardinal non-card based ‘decisions’ you must make in Texas Holdem poker to be prosperous. Few of these have anything to do with the bricks and mortars variant of the game.
After the summary, we will tangle with a lot of detail. But even if you never read the follow-up, whenever you embrace these simple fundamentals your profits will increment dramatically.
1. SIGN UP WITH THE BEST ONLINE POKER ROOMS

You must have 50 to 100 times the Big Blind. Any less and your probabilities of making money will take a More will only improve your table ‘cred’ and aid to restrain feebler competitors.

Spend at least 15 minutes checking the play at each table.

Then choose the loosest table you found.
